Users downloading and installing software from the internet onto the network or local machines.
The issues
The network manager is unaware that the software has been downloaded in the first place, which raises a number or issues:
Is the software malicious / spyware?
Does the software require a license?
Does the software use company bandwidth? (like file sharing software)
The ideal solution
Ideally the network manager, or one of the IT team, would be alerted to new software downloads when a user starts to install the program. The software could then be checked and approved or disapproved.
Kaseya handles the solution to this problem in four stages:
The Network and Windows Event Monitoring module of Kaseya can be set to send alerts when new software is installed either on a network drive or local machine.
The Software & Hardware Auditing Module keeps track of every piece of software installed on servers, desktops and laptops.
The Software Licensing module of Kaseya (part of the Auditing module) then keeps track of existing licensing compared with the software being used.
Finally, if the software is not approved, the Remote Control Module of Kaseya can be used to uninstall the offending software.
