A new piece of software is approved for use on all machines on the network.(Similar scenario for a common piece of software requiring an upgrade – like from Word XP to Word 2003).
The issues
There are multiple machines that require the new software which will occupy a significant amount of engineering resource. Each workstation will have to be assessed to see if the new software will actually run to a satisfactory level of performance. The software will have to be installed out of office hours, meaning late nights or early starts for IT engineers. (Not to mention expensive overtime bills).
The ideal solution
Ideally, the network manager would be able to produce a report containing an up to date list of all the specifications of the machines on the network. It would then be simple to run a query to see which machines could handle the software and which would need upgrading. Once the relevant upgrades were made, the software would be ‘pushed' from a central server to all machines out of office hours.
Kaseya handles the solution to this problem in three stages:
The Software and Hardware Auditing module of Kaseya contains a constantly up-to-date list of every machine on the network. The network manager can enter the required specification for the new software and get an immediate report as to which machines are ok as is and which others need what exact upgrades. The exact parts required for each machine are also easily identified because of the detailed information available. Engineers can then be assigned to fit the hardware upgrades.
The Fast Application Deployment module of Kaseya can then be used to automatically carry out the software install at a set time that will not disturb the work force.
Any problems encountered would be reported by the same Fast Application Deployment module of Kaseya.
