Figures from IMLogic reveal that the worm
and virus threat to instant messaging and peer-to-peer applications
is up a whopping 271 percent. That translates into 75 new
IM and peer-to-peer viruses and worms circulating. More than
50 percent of the attacks reported last quarter were attributed
to businesses on applications such as AOL IM and MSN Messenger,
the report found. Experts say these numbers should serve as
a wake-up call to businesses. Companies should evaluate IM
management and end-user policies in light of this trend, particularly
since the worms are quickly becoming more sophisticated.
